I’m Matt Ellis, founder of Studio 718. Born and raised in Brooklyn, I learned early to truly see people. A deep love for authentic community, human rhythm, and genuine presence is the foundation of Studio 718.

Directing, shooting, and shaping visual stories through an intentional documentary lens, my focus is rooted in the power of being in the room. I travel for productions wherever the story lives, looking for unscripted moments that make a frame breathe. My approach pairs patient observation with cinematic weight, creating films and imagery that feel real, human, and deeply grounded.

Original Content & Direction
As a Director and Director of Photography at The Ellis Network, I help guide creative development across our slate and lead the visual direction for our Webby Award-winning flagship show, Ellis Ever After with K&D. From multi-camera setups to long-form storytelling.

Executive & Brand Presence
Bringing a documentary sensibility to corporate spaces, I partner with executives, founders, and global organizations to capture leadership. Rather than stiff, formulaic headshots, I create portraits of authority that retain their warmth and humanity. Select clients include The Coca-Cola Company, Spotify, ExxonMobil, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, HSBC, Lowe’s, and The Executive Leadership Council.

Documentary, Editorial & Fine Art
Story-driven commercial and photojournalistic work rooted in place, character, and cultural context. Selected editorial imagery has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Waymaker Magazine, and Taste of Home.
